Register of Licensed Building Practitioners
LBPs are building practitioners who have been assessed as competent to carry out building work essential to the structure or weathertightness of residential buildings. The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment Hīkina Whakatutuki provides a public register of LBPs you can use to find an LBP, check that a person is licensed, view a person's license history and find out if an LBP has been disciplined in the last three years.
LBPs are assessed before getting a licence, and have to keep their knowledge up to date to be re-licensed. They include designers, carpenters or builders, roofers, brick and block layers, external plasterers, site and foundation specialists.
You must use an LBP to design or carry out or to supervise those designing or carrying out of restricted building work.
To save you time and effort when adding participants to an application, you can search the LBP Register and select a matching LBP record. The system populates the details for the selected LBP on the participant, including details of their LBP license.
