Restricted building work is work that’s critical to make a home structurally sound and weathertight. You must use Licensed Building Practitioners (LBPs) to design and carry out this work. LBPs are registered and required to keep their skills and knowledge up to date. LBPs are licensed for the type of work they do.

Select Yes if the project includes residential design, construction or alteration work that:

  • requires a building consent

  • and involves or affects a home’s:

    • primary structure

    • weathertightness

    • certain fire safety design

  • or any of the planned work will be carried out by the owner of the property

Note:  You'll add details of the LBPs involved on the People and Roles step of the application.

Will the owner of the property carry out some or all of the restricted building work? Select Yes if the owner will complete some RBW. You will need to complete a Form 2B Statutory declaration as to owner-builder status form, available from your BCA. The form must be signed and witnessed. You must attach and submit the completed form on the building consent. This option is available only if Will the building work include any restricted building work is set to Yes.

Enter the change amount is the amount to complete the building work covered by the amendment only. For a reduction, please enter a minus '-' before the amount, such as -3500. The amount must include GST. Authorities use this amount when determining the building levy the building owner or developer must pay.
